"Good photography requires hard-work and long hours: circle the subject like a tracker hunting prey; wait for the elements to fall into the place; click the shutter at the crucial second; hope you’ve captured the moment,” says Ede Murcks. Ede has had 25 years of working in photography and likes nothing better than to be ‘on the road’ with his camera. He is currently an art director and commissioning editor in London.

This photo was taken when I was back-packing around India in 1992. I was on my own, very isolated and existing on the bare minimum. I was down to my last couple of rolls of film, and I had lost the ‘leader’ on one roll by re-winding it into the cassette – a guy sitting on the pavement outside the Taj showed me a very neat trick of how to retrieve the leader, and that’s something I have never forgotten. I got up very early to get this shot of the Taj Mahal at dawn, it involved a long trek around to get to the opposite side of the river where I saw the beautiful outline of the building and the near still water suffused a soft rose tint by the rising sun.
